The Australian cricket team met with another injury scare as leg-spinner Adam Zampa was involved in a swimming pool incident, confirmed skipper Pat Cummins on Saturday.

Zampa, 31, hit the pool wall during a routine session which left a noticeable bruise on his face.

This was not the first time an Australian was involved in a swimming incident as in 2022, wicketkeeper batter Alex Carey fell into a pool in Karachi.

Australian skipper Pat Cummins held a press conference and opened up on the leg-spinner’s injury.

“He swam into the pool wall," Cummins said. "He said he had his eyes closed and thought he was swimming in a straight line and swam into the step in the pool. He's all good, just a bit sore."

Australia will begin their World Cup campaign on Sunday (October 8) against the hosts India and Cummins is not expecting any kind of support in the stadium.

"The home crowd's going to be noisy and very one-sided, which is nothing new, and it's great," said fast bowler Cummins.

"It's always tough playing against someone on their home ground, but with that also comes pressure. There are a billion fans that are going to be watching closely, cheering them on."

"What a better way to start than India, in the home conditions you'd imagine, they're probably tournament favourites.

"If we win that's awesome, if not, we know where we stand and maybe we need to change a few things. It should be a cracker."

Earlier, Australian all-rounder Marcus Stoinis suffered a hamstring problem in the three-match series against India and was ruled out of the tournament’s opener.

It must be noted that Australia are in poor form, losing five consecutive One Day Internationals (ODIs), three against South Africa, and two against India after finally ending their losing streak in the last ODI against the Blues.

On the other hand, India are in spectacular form after their Asia Cup 2023 triumph where they dismantled Sri Lanka in the event’s final.

However, star opener Shubman Gill remains a doubt for the World Cup as the 24-year-old is dealing with some illness.
